Iowa Speedway race fans will have an opportunity to voice their support for Danica Patrick, as the track kicks off its “Go Danica” campaign to encourage the iconic Izod IndyCar star to drive her “Go Daddy” Chevrolet in the 250-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday, July 31st.
Patrick’s Nationwide car owner, JR Motorsports, headed by NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt, Jr., recently announced a tentative 2010 schedule for her to compete in 13 Nationwide Series events – a schedule that did not include a stop for the 27-year-old pop-culture phenomenon on the fast, 7/8-mile oval track facility in Newton.
Fans of “America’s Place to Race” may have some influence on the final line-up of what many are calling “Danica Mania on Tour” by voting in the special Fan Poll on the bottom right corner of the “IowaSpeedway.Com” Home page. Fans may cast their votes by simply clicking ‘YES, I Want Danica To Go Fast In Iowa’ if they want JR Motorsports to add Iowa Speedway’s Nationwide race to her 2010 schedule, or ‘No Thanks’ if seeing the dynamic Patrick race a stock car isn’t a priority for them.
“I’m betting heavily that our fan base will want to see Danica more than once in 2010,” said Jerry Jauron, Iowa Speedway President and Chief Financial Officer. “No doubt she’ll be here for our fourth annual ‘Iowa Corn Indy 250’ on June 20th. But after turning more than a thousand laps on our track, it only makes sense that she would want to race a Nationwide stock car here as well.”
Ballots will be accepted online through the 15th of April, or fans may e-mail their preference to go-danica@iowaspeedway.com. One vote per person will be counted, and all results will be tabulated and announced on or before Friday, April 30th.
