The Official Danica Patrick Fan Site
Since we are heading into the last off weekend of the year for Sprint Cup and we finally received official confirmation of Harvick to SHR last week, I thought it was time to start the 2014 Silly Season discussion.
In the next few posts I'm going to summarize some of the key players but if I miss anyone or if you have thoughts on any of these please feel free to add and continue the discussion.
By the way, I would be all for the regular season points leader after 26 races starting the Chase with the lead they rightfully earned, even in this new purposed system.
BK Racing going young and most likely cheap for the 2014 season...
Alex Bowman will drive the #23 (points from #93)
Ryan Truex will drive the #83
Travis Kvapil remains with the organization and may run select races in the #93
Phoenix Racing makes it official and announces Justin Allgaier will drive the #51 for the full-season.
NASCAR's new qualifying formats
NASCAR.com looks at how the Chase would've worked over the past 3 years with the new points system/Chase format in place and who would've made the Chase Final Four. I disregard the champion because a winner-take-all race can't be forecasted when a driver like Jimmie had to only finish 23rd last year at Homestead. Clearly, if he had to race hard to clinch the title, he would, which was the case in 2010.
BTW- I just saw a note on twitter by one of ESPN's stat guys who said the two drivers who would've benefitted most from this new format would've been Jamie McMurray (would've made 4 Chases - has never made one in the past 10 years) and David Ragan (would've made 3 Chases- has never made one in the past 10 years).
