Can't wait; last year turned me into a short track fan! :-)

The Nationwide entry list is out as well, no 34 car entered.

Per Danica's pre-race report they will be unveiling a special St. Patrick's Day paint scheme for the #10 tomorrow on GoDaddy's twitter feed...

Not that anyone on this site needs to be told this but this USA Today article shows why Danica is important to NASCAR...

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nascar/2013/03/12/danica-patri...

A few off-topic notes...

* Bernie Eccelstone (F1) all of a sudden would be interested in Danica for F1 and says she has everything you need to succeed in F1...of course he famously put her down a few years ago.  He probably is making these statements now because she has let it be known she has no interest in F1.

* Graham Rahal is making noise about wanting to run the Nationwide race at Mid-Ohio.  It would be kind of a home race for him.  I hope he has some cash to bring to a team because after he crapped all over the thought of NASCAR a couple of years ago I don't see anyone just signing him to run the car without some $$. :)

* Marco Andretti supposedly spent some time in Europe  this off-season to improve his road racing skills but if the just concluded open IndyCar test is any indication it didn't help.

Eccelstone for sure did not miss the massive wave of publicity that followed Danica's winning the pole at the Daytona 500.  One of the articles about that that I read here recently (can't remember which one) went into some detail about how NASCAR with their declining popularity in recent years has been looking for "a polarizing" figure able to build public interest in the sport the way that Dale Earnhart Sr. did.  (We often forget Dale Sr. had a flock of haters following him as well.)  "Who knew it would be a pretty girl?" the article said.  I suspect Eccelstone has in the past dismissed talk of the benefit NASCAR might garner from Danica's popularity and celebrity and now suddenly grasps what potential publicity and renewed interest Formula 1 could gain from having Danica Patrick as one of its drivers.  After all, one recent article reported that the day after she won the 500 pole, her photo appeared on the front page of 100 newspapers.  Not to mention interviews on mainstream non-sports programs like NBC's evening news with Brian Williams.

Jeff Hammond pretty much repeats what we've all been saying here...

Here we go again.... crappy car set up because she is now in 33rd place in practice and that is not all on her. She knows how to drive here but if the car is not set up right, she can't go any faster. Tony better get his act together... fast.

@PhillipJames, I had the same initial reaction wtching the live leaderboard, but I'm more interested in the big picture.  What are practice conditions like compared to race conditions?  What's the weather going to be like?  Are they improving their own speed at all? How do they plan to improve qualifying.

My opinion is that its tony Gibson's job to take his experience, use what he knows of the car, the track, and changing track conditions, and combine it with what he's continuously learning about his driver.  He needs to understand just how valuable it is to have someone like Danica who doesn't let her ego get in the way.  He can have a direct connection via his brain-car-driver-track if he plays his cards right.  And I'm comfortable with him telling her things like she has to push herself more in XYZ areas, trust that the car is going to do ABC etc etc.  Its a team effort but she seems to take a different approach than most drivers so in-the-name-of-all-that-is-holy USE IT!

EDIT: heheh and I just checked and she's jumped to 22nd. See, I planned my post that way.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it:)
