From the Indianapolis Star:

Danica Patrick is now, officially, staying in the IndyCar Series.

Patrick signed a three-year contract to remain with Andretti Green Racing during last weekend's event at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan. She will continue to drive the No. 7 car with a Motorola-based sponsorship.

Patrick could not be reached for comment Thursday night, but it is believed she has not resolved her options for driving a stock car in the future.

Tony Stewart told reporters during last week's Sprint Cup Series race in Loudon, N.H., that he has "not made an offer'' to Patrick.

Patrick, 27, is completing her third season with AGR and her fifth in the series overall. She is fifth in the current point standings, tops among AGR drivers. Her lone victory in the series came 17 months ago in Japan.

Patrick's signing could be followed by more good news for the IndyCar Series. Kerry Angstadt, the president of the Indy Racing League's commercial division, said Thursday that the series is close to signing a title sponsor for 2010 and beyond.

The company IRL officials have been talking to is Phillips-Van Heusen, which has Izod as a brand. Izod is already in partnership with IndyCar.

Everybody knew she was coming back to the Indycar series, it was just a matter of how many years would it be for.

I'm still curious about her future Nascar plans to tell you the truth.

Danica Patrick said last month she was going to stay in IndyCar with Michael Andretti and she would sign when the details were worked out.

Done and done.

According to a source inside Andretti's team, Patrick finally signed her contract this week and it's believed to be for three years.

Which should cool the erroneous stories she was headed for NASCAR, fueled by comments from Tony Stewart a couple weeks ago to the NASCAR media. Stewart said Patrick approached him about the best way to pursue stock car racing, but that he had no plans to run her.

A story on ESPN.com indicated she was heading for NASCAR, either trucks or the Nationwide series in 2010 in between her IndyCar schedule. It remains to be seen whether theonly woman to ever win an IndyCar race will dabble in some form of stock car racing next year.

But Patrick told VERSUS.com last week in Motegi, Japan that nothing had changed from her original declaration at Sonoma. "My intention remains the same, to stay with Andretti-Green, so nothing has changed on that," said Patrick.

The 27-year-old veteran from Roscoe, Ill. is having her best season in IndyCar and ranks fifth in the point standings heading into the finale race at Homestead, Fla. next month.

It's expected Motorola and Boost Mobile will return as her sponsors.

Robin Miller called ESPN.com's Ed Hinton's story about Danica/Nascar "erroneous", yet says in his own story, "it remains to be seen if the only woman to ever win an Indycar race will dabble in some form of stock car racing next year"

So how can his report be "erroneous" if Danica herself hasn't say definitely if she's going to run some stock car races in 2010 or not?

BTW- If Miller READ Hinton's story, he'd see that Hinton clearly stated that Danica would re-sign with AGR, so this ISN'T news. It's the part about her running some stock car races along with a full-time Indycar schedule that got people's attention.

I'm happy about it. Kinda refuse to beileve the N****R thing, cos she said from the beginning she wanted to stay in AGR. Now I hope the AGR revive it good old times and be competitive at the red team level again

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Danica Patrick signed a three-year contract to remain at Andretti Green Racing in the IndyCar Series, according to team and IndyCar sources.

Patrick, who told SI.com on August 21 that she was going to re-sign with the IndyCar Series team, and reaffirmed that intention last week at the IndyCar Series race at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan, was able to finalize her deal.

Patrick, the first female to win in a major, closed-course racing series with her victory at Twin Ring Motegi on April 20, 2008, signed an extension with the IndyCar Series team to remain as the driver of the No. 7 entry sponsored by Boost Mobile and Motorola.

The signing will be officially announced at later time, presumably around the IndyCar Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Oct. 10.

"She is great for our series and an important part of our series," said Jeff Belskus, the CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation -- the parent company of the IndyCar Series. "I won't sit here and say it's absolutely necessary to have her in the series, but we certainly prefer for her to be a part of the IndyCar Series. It was understandable that she was considering all of the options open to her.

"My hope is she will be an IndyCar driver first and foremost, even when she tries to run in other series. She has said the Indianapolis 500 is important to her and a lifelong dream for her to win that."

With Patrick's new deal, she has three more cracks at winning the Indy 500.

And by remaining an IndyCar driver, the series can breathe a sigh of relief.

While Patrick's new deal will allow her to compete in a limited number of NASCAR lower division races, such as ARCA, Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series, she has not committed to anything.

"As I've said, NASCAR is something that interests me," Patrick said on Sept. 19. "That's not a different answer and that's not a different idea so I don't know why people are making a big deal about it. Tony Stewart gave me a lot of advice. I'm a ball of questions and I've known him for a long, long time. I also had a chance to congratulate him on the success this year as an owner/driver."

Stewart, an owner/driver in Sprint Cup, has said he has "no plans" on running Patrick. But she could be in line to run with either Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Hendrick Motorsports as part of the JR Motorsports Nationwide Series entry, which is sponsored by GoDaddy.com -- one of Patrick's major backers.

GoDaddy.com signed a two-year deal with Sprint Cup driver Mark Martin last week to support the No. 5 Chevrolet at Hendrick Motorsports, opening the possibility of Patrick replacing Martin when he retires if she shows enough promise on the NASCAR side by the time her IndyCar deal is up.

So much hullabaloo about her running partial NASCAR schedule when the crucial question is whether Andretti can make her a true competitor in IRL. Michael has got to dig deep and provide her cars that can challenge the Penske & Ganassi boys, as well as some of the younger drivers coming on from smaller teams.Considering everything about this season, it really is quite amazing that Danica is in P5 and has done as well as she has.
