GoDaddy is at it Again... Is Danica on her way out as their Spokesperson?

GoDaddy is truly amazing in the way they get publicity for supposed internal discussions that somehow end up in full press releases...

My first impression is there is a Danica SuperBowl commercial that they don't want to tell anyone about so they can get maximum exposure but who knows with them... I'm pretty sure Danica's Management team has contingencies for the eventuality of GoDaddy going away.

If I'm GoDaddy I'd be worried about an Ad Agency that thought those awful GoDaddy Olympic commercials were good. :)  All businesses need to evaluate their marketing plans on a regular basis but they don't usually send out press releases or grant interviews around the discussions.

As a GoDaddy customer with domains set to renew in the next few months I'll be watching to see what direction they go.

Actually, here is a article that has some current quotes from her agent...  He goes on record to refute the notion that her contract with GoDaddy ends in 2013 for Sprint Cup sponsorship.

Either way, it looks like it was a ploy by the company to generate buzz for the Super Bowl commercials and for somebody whose Q score is falling, it sure seems to have worked ;)

To be honest, I don't remember ever reading that her contract with GoDaddy would actually end in 2013.  I have always seen it phrased as something like "we will support her through 2013."  That does not really conflict with GoDaddy's "new" statement that they expect to be working with her "for years to come" or with Danica's statement that she has a multi-year contract with GoDaddy.


It does seem true that their agenda is to create controversial speculation in order to generate publicity.  Interesting that we are now being told the Hinch/Danica "competition" was not meant to be a genuine competition.

Recent speculation has been that her contract was up in 2013...I'm sure it was never said from an official sources since it is bad information.  I actually would bet the two year contract that Bob Dillner is reporting may not be the full story either (i would bet there is at least a 3rd year in there in some form).  Danica took a huge chance in moving to Nascar and she has a very detailed approach to her career so I'm sure she had a significant commitment from GoDaddy before making the jump.  Let's be honest...after all the $$ GoDaddy has invested in Danica do they really want to drop her and have her win with someone else's name on the car?  I'd guess no. :)

Also, for the reporting on her drop in Q score...If it was as big a worry as the original article tried to make it out to be I would bet you Coke wouldn't have signed her up.  They do know a thing or two about marketing yet they just signed on with her this year. :)

All of this noise is just that...  Danica is smart and she is represented by the biggest sports agency around. With all that brain power, you better believe they have worked out the best possible deal. The agency has a vested interest in Danica making as much money over the next 10 years as is humanly possible, so you can bet they have her covered.

And, you don't think that if GoDaddy were to blow up next year (which they won't) that there aren't a number of other sponsors that would take up the slack?

I'm shaking my head and laughing at the whole thing.  If this was an attempt to measure how much buzz Danica can still generate, they sure got their answer.  I found a ton of articles and countless social media feeds at the mere rumors about all this.  Clearly, people are still reading and talking about our favorite driver.

 

As annoyed as I was at Barb Rechterman (and the GoDaddy marketing team) I do have sympathy for her.  I researched her last night and she's taken a lot of flack, especially from other women, about GoDaddy sexualized images.  I don't agree with the flack, but I respect how tough Ms. Rechterman's job is.

Yup, she's currently the #1 trending topic on Yahoo's homepage
