Don't agree with everything he did, but at least he had some fresh ideas and tried to make the sport meaningful outside of the month of May.
As for Indycar, what a mess.

My biggest issue with Randy was his tendency to 'over-promise and under-deliver', which anyone who has ever had to manage anything will tell you is a cardinal sin. Plus, it had to be troubling to see IZOD take a step back with their activation especially when Randy's expertise was marketing.
The problem is if the IndyCar BOD wasn't happy with Randy they should have been more decisive instead they really let him twist in the wind for the last few months. Heck even now they claim the board meeting was called in response to the rumors about his employment status...that sure isn't a reason to let somebody go if you feel he is doing the job.
I think the best thing for IndyCar would be to sell the series to someone not related to the Hulman-George family and then setup a long-term sanctioning agreement for the Indy500. We'll see what direction they actually take as the proof will be in who they ultimately hire to replace Randy.
Permalink Reply by Lisa Weber on October 30, 2012 at 12:00pm I'm sad for this decision. I liked Randy, he responded personally when I emailed him comments and was very fan-friendly. Side note, looks like Tony Kanaan is getting Simona as a teammate. Good for Simona for scoring a better team. But we should prepare ourselves for the onslaught of "Simona sneezed, that proves she's a better driver than Danica" comments. Simona has Johanna Long-type immunity from some members of the media and many haters who think she can do no wrong.
Becky, you were absolutely right, I loathe hypocrisy:)
Permalink Reply by Becky on October 30, 2012 at 11:00pm Lisa, I agree we will have to hear about how great a teammate Simona is...but good for her on upgrading her ride. I predict Tony will love having Simona for a teammate because she won't dare to challenge him about anything and he'll be the unequivocal top dog on the team. But if she dares to make a pass on him in a race watch out and all bets will be off. :)

If they aren't actively in the works of selling the series, I'm worried because they seem to be pretty clueless (just my opinion). :)
